Reference ShelfState and Local Resources on the Net:State and Local Government on the Web is a resource newspapers and other publications about state and local government listed by each state. The general information about state government is at the beginning of the site.U.S.A.gov provides a listing of states. Click on any one of the fifty states and you can access the official state Web sites as well as the major legislative and judicial Web sites in each state. It also has a listing of cities, counties and regional governments on the Internet. There is a lot of information at this site. State Rep is a site that offer information about all the people serving in the state legislature in Illinois. It also lists the bills they are sponsoring and the committees they serve on. To find out who yourstate represenative is you can go to the Illinois State Board of Elections and find your representatives in Illinois by zip code or address. National Council of State Legislatures sponsors this site which contains information about legislatures at the state level. From this site you can access state Web sites, state legislatures, and search engines to help you research bills or laws. My Virtual Reference Desk
Cities on the Web is a list of some of the cities that have Web sites. If you are looking for a way to compare the use of Web sites by cities, here is a good source. 50 States.Com provides a variety of important information about each state including: the state constitutions, state departments, public officials, local governments and a whole list of things about each state you probably don't care to know, such as, official state bird. On-Line includes the State Court Locator and State Court
Web Sites. It also list the courts online by individual states.
This is an excellent source for researching court cases.
Dumblaws.com is an interesting
site with goofy laws. Click on United State Laws and then go to a
specific state to find out crazy laws they have on the books in that state
and some of the cities in the state.
