Summary:

Lewis University's Department of Music seeks an active and charismatic faculty member to begin the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a fulltime non-tenure track Professor of Practice position, and the starting rank is Assistant Professor.

Candidates should have a completed Masters Degree in music and have an active career with extensive professional experience as a performer in contemporary pop music. The candidate must also have a very strong music technology background with extensive documented experience in music production, recording, and live sound.

We seek a strong teacher with college teaching experience who is committed to student success and teaching.

The candidate for this position will take a leading role in recruiting students to our innovative Music Industry and Computer Science+Music (CS+) programs. Candidates with college teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be able combine academic training and professional experiences with a breadth of knowledge of contemporary musical practice. The candidate will be instrumental in helping to shape and develop the music program at Lewis University.

Depending on expertise, the candidate may teach and develop a broad range of contemporary music courses on topics including music production and recording, live sound, history of jazz, world music, music theory, music for film/tv, music media, game audio, and applied instrument or voice lessons. Directing and developing contemporary music ensembles are also possibilities depending upon the candidate's skills, interests, and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
  • Teach courses related to contemporary pop music and music technology. The teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year.
  • Take a leading role in recruitment initiatives
  • Pursue scholarly activity related to musical expertise
  • Availability to hold office hours and meet with other faculty members and department chairs or directors when necessary
  • Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Masters Degree. Strong technology skills and college teaching experience preferred. Strong commitment to teaching and recruitment.
