Whether you are contemplating a career in music or just looking for an outlet for your musical talents, we have abundant opportunities for you here. The department sponsors three vocal and four instrumental ensembles that are open to students in all majors. Some require an audition, but others are open to all who wish to participate, including musicians from the community. Vocalists and instrumentalists looking for a private teacher will find instructors here who can take them to the next level of music performance, whatever their instrument or level of achievement.
Students contemplating a major in music will find a complete curriculum in music theory, history, technology, and business leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Small classes and professionally active instructors contribute to the musical and educational development of every student. Double majors and minors in music are also encouraged. Financial Aid is available from a number of sources.
We encourage you to explore the many opportunities here for you. We think you'll be impressed by the way the Lewis University Music Department combines liberal education with professional training in an environment that makes learning a pleasure.
The mission of the Music Department is consonant with that of the university as a whole. We seek in all we do and teach to foster knowledge, wisdom, fidelity, justice and association. We endeavor to provide a program of liberal education and professional training in music. Respectful of our heritage, we nevertheless seek to cultivate music as a living art form and to be open, creative, inclusive, and innovative in our approach to music of our own time.
