Ensemble Information

Music majors and minors have numerous opportunities to perform in one of the university's many ensembles every semester. The department maintains a symphony orchestra, a chamber choir, university choir, recording ensemble, percussion ensemble, and a jazz band. These ensembles are directed by full and part-time faculty who have established themselves as respected conductors at the local, regional, and national level. All these ensembles perform every semester and are open to members of the community as well as to students in all majors. Some require an audition.

Chamber Choir

Chamber Choir is a mixed chorus open to all students by audition. The group rehearses M-W from 4:00 to 5:15pm. In addition to representing the music department at events on and off campus, the choir performs a major concert at the end of each semester. As scheduling permits, the ensemble may travel to high schools in the Chicago area to give presentations, workshops, and programs.

Gospel Choir

Gospel Choir welcomes all Lewis students who are interested in exploring and performing a variety of gospel music such as traditional a cappella hymns, anthems, spirituals to urban contemporary and inspirational songs. Gospel Choir is composed of a diverse group of singers and musicians, and a leadership team that helps with the planning of annual events, performances, and workshops. Although Gospel Music includes praise and worship songs, members are NOT required to be affiliated with a church or mandated to have a religious background. Participation in Gospel Choir helps build vocal and performance experience, team collaboration, and awareness of possible careers associated with the gospel and entertainment industry.

All members of Gospel Choir (singers and musicians) are expected to meet for weekly rehearsals on Mondays at 7pm and to participate in scheduled events or performances. A choir calendar will be provided monthly each semester and designated uniform attire should be followed.
