Laurel Tempas is the flute instructor at Lewis University. She attended Northwestern
University and received degrees in Music Education and Flute Performance.
She was a student of Walfrid Kujala, retired piccolo for the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra.
Laurel performs with several orchestras in the Chicago area. She has played
Second Flute with the Symphony of Oak Park River Forest since 1993. She is
also a member of the Salt Creek Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra, and Wind
Harmonies chamber ensemble.
Besides her flute studio at Lewis, Laurel also teaches in several area high
schools in Lockport, Downers Grove, and Westmont. She is also a judge for
high school IMEA auditions and solo contests.
Laurel and her husband Bob share a love of music. He sings tenor with the
Illinois District champion quartet BY POPULAR DEMAND and with the 2001 International
Champion New Tradition Chorus of Northbrook, Illinois. Laurel and Bob reside
in Hinsdale.
